There’s a debate going on on a teaching forum and I’d like people’s input on what you make of it before I add my two cents to the misogyny and bullshit that’s being put about.

Shakespeare can be interpreted in an infinite number of ways. And there have been all kinds of creative productions in the past. But making changes like gender reversals shouldn’t be done just for the heck of it. Color reversing Othello, for instance, or gender reversing Richard II, helps us to more fully understand the play. It gives the viewer really powerful and unique insights that they may not otherwise have gotten.
